教学检讨 Reflection

 

This is not the first time I use technology in my lessons, but definitely is the first lesson using cooperative Learning with technology in the lesson. In this lesson, I design activities based on Cooperative Learning setting.

 

Overall, I can say that it successfully engage most of the student by involve most of them with activities. I’m happy to see that most of the students enjoy the lesson and pay attention during lesson. Class looks quite noisy compare with normal lesson, because the students were busy involve in discussion and searching for answer.   

 

I found that while having ‘Rounded Table’, more student involve in discussion compare to normal group discussion in which only one or two students play active parts but others just waiting for the answer, this maybe because they know that they have to take part to contribute to the team.

 

While reporter making a report in front, other student listens quietly because they know that question will be asked according to the reports and each team also require giving marks to other teams by filling evaluation form. When students are given a role, they will be alert for that.    

 

I found that my students enjoy quiz the most. While having ‘Numbered Heads Together’, even weak student play an active part in answering questions, because other team-mates will try their best to help them getting the correct answers. This motivates them to speak in public.

 

This lesson is a student centered lesson where I only act as facilitator. From the survey, I found that some of the students still not very use to student centered method. In their concept, knowledge should come from teacher in a formal learning process, they don’t want to wasting time adventure for new knowledge, but luckily most of the student enjoy learning in a free and relax environment and started to change their learning style form passive to active.   

 

This experience gives me confidence in continue CL in CFL classroom in future. CL activities emphasis social learning encourages students to learn actively in class

 

If I want to apply Cooperative Learning method in classroom in future, first of all, I will make sure that I have enough time to prepare students before the Cooperative Learning activities, so that the activities can carry out smoothly. Besides that, I would like to try jigsaw, learning together and other technics in CL, this will variety the activities in class. And I also like to design activities for other learning skills, such as reading and writing skills and test it’s effectiveness. 

  

Problem Facing:

I’m facing some problem while conducting Cooperative Learning in CFL classroom. At first, I try to divide students into heterogeneous group according to their results, but most of the student refused to work with students they don’t familiar. This may be because they already have their own group since last year and they already use to work together with their own group members. Due to constrain of time, I had to surrender and let them stick with their old group members.  

 

Some of the student facing problems in searching materials at home because they don’t have internet supply, so I decided to let the students searching for material in ICT room at 23 March 2011 (a weak before lesson), but unfortunately there were some problems with internet that day. Luckily, students used the opportunity to complete their PowerPoint after discussion in groups and complete at home.

 

Limitation:

Due to constrain of time, the effect of CL in reducing learners’ code switching is not obvious. This activity only last for 3 periods, therefore, it is hard to see the long-term effects of CL, which require the implementation of a long-term task.

 

I believe that CL have potential in settle most of the problem facing in CFL classroom, such as large class size, limited class hours, code switching, shy to share opinion in public.
